Zion National Park is well-known for its unpredictable weather conditions. It’s not uncommon for the daytime temperature to be thirty or forty degrees higher than what the temperature will be during the night. It will also change dramatically as you go up in elevation. Before visiting Zion you need to prepare for the weather. The easier way to do this is to learn as much about how the different seasons affect the weather at Zion as you can.
You can visit Zion all year long to see different sights and experience nature in its different seasons but the weather will be completely different in each season. In the winter, the weather is fairly mild in the lower elevations. You can expect winter storms to bring rain or light snow to the canyon of Zion. However, the higher elevations can be packed with a heavy snow.
The nights usually average around twenty or thirty degrees but the daytime temperature can often reach the sixties. You must be prepared for the extreme temperature changes and be prepared to make it through a snow storm for several days just in case you get caught off guard.
In the spring, the weather can be very unpredictable so you need to be prepared for anything from a hot sunny day to a stormy wet one. You never really know what to expect. In the summer, the highs can easily reach between ninety-five to one hundred ten degrees while the nights usually hover around sixty-five to seventy degrees. It’s not uncommon to get a thunderstorm in the afternoon and flash floods are possible.
In the fall, you can expect the weather to be clear and mild for the most part although the nights can get very cool. It’s also a great time to see the leaves change and all the brilliant colors they display. Knowing what to expect can help you pack and prepare for the weather so your Zion vacation will be more comfortable and safer.
